Why Novinite.com Scrapped Bulgaria's Politician of 2013 Category

The last month of the year is strange time.

Looking forward to the holiday commotion and knowing that after the sense of happiness goes up in smoke and drinks, we will be standing on the brink of the unknown.

But there is one thing which we know quite well now – how our last year's forecasts fared.

There is one story that you certainly misread here first – about the headlong fall of Bulgaria's political elite.

That was a clear miss on our part and a big one too.

We assumed that people's trust in parties and institutions will be eroded even further, but failed to imagine a situation, in which a political board could seem the only way out.

This is exactly what happened in Bulgaria's political life in 2013.

Corrupt politicians and lack of traditions in civil society initiatives showed that even the best case scenario - a Grand National Assembly, new Constitution and a new Electoral Code – is not a solution.

So, please, don't be surprised when you read next week that we have done away with the politics section in our annual Personality in the News poll.

Nobody deserves to see his name there, really.

We need your support so Novinite.com can keep delivering news and information about Bulgaria! Thank you!
