The Ukrainian government is seeking to benefit from its partnership with both Russia and the European Union, according to Bulgarian PR expert Maxim Behar.

Ukraine decided last week to put off the signing of long-discussed association and free-trade agreements with the EU. The move triggered massive pro-European protests in the country.

Behar, who is currently in Kyiv, believes the Ukrainian government is taking part in a “complex political game.”

“Based on what I have seen over the last few days, parallels cannot be drawn with any other country in Europe, including Bulgaria,” he told the Bulgarian National Television, referring to the ongoing anti-government rallies in his home country.

The PR expert believes that Ukraine is trying to reap maximum benefits from both its trade relations with Russia and its future cooperation with Europe.

Referring to “Generation F”, a term he coined in his latest book, Behar pointed out that many young Ukrainians are eager to have good relations with both Russia and the EU.

He suggested that a referendum on Ukraine’s EU future would ease the tensions in the country.
