The day in the Bulgarian capital Sofia began Wednesday with huge riot police presence in the vicinity of the Parliament.

There are about 20 gendarmerie vans, scores of patrol cars, and a bus, which have already delivered hundreds of police in heavy riot gear as three different protest rallies are expected to bring downtown Sofia to a standstill.

All vehicles are evenly spread around the Parliament building, so that they block any visibility of its entrances.

There are also expectations that pro-government people, who want the resignation of President, Rosen Plevneliev, will stage a rally as well. Plevneliev is calling Wednesday the Consultative Council for National Security over the refugee crisis.

All streets, leading to the square in front of the Parliament, are blocked by riot police.

Traffic jams are reported in the heart of the city over the upped police presence.
