Bulgarian Cities Burgas, Plovdiv Are Accessible For Disabled People-EC

Plovdiv and Burgas have been recognized by the European Commission and the European Disability Forum as 2 of the 33 most accessible cities for disabled people in Europe.

Bulgarian towns Burgas and Plovdiv have been shortlisted in the ‘Access City’ competition which recognizes the cities that are ‘most accessible for people with disabilities, informs the European Commission, EC.

‘Access City Award 2014’ is a contest organized by EC and the European Disability Forum for the purpose to encourage cities with over 50 000 inhabitants from all member states to become more accessible to people with disabilities and older people.

The application phase for the ‘Access City Award 2014’ closed in September with 102 cities from 23 EU member states joining the competition.

Burgas and Plovdiv did not found a place into the final of the contest, but were shortlisted among the 33 cities that have improved accessibility in the urban environment for persons with disabilities.

Belfast, Burgos, Dresden, Gothenburg, Grenoble, Malaga and Poznan are the cities selected by the Commission and the European Disability Forum to continue to the final of the competition

The European Disability Forum is an independent NGO that represents the interests of 80 million Europeans with disabilities, it is the only European platform run by persons with disabilities and their families.

The overall winner will be revealed at the Award Ceremony in Brussels on 3 December on the occasion of the Conference 'Accessible Tourism in Europe' marking the European Day of Persons with Disabilities and the European Tourism Day.
