A Bulgarian businessman from the town of Dve Mogili, near Ruse, plans to provide jobs and housing for Syrian refugees.

Dragomir Damyanov, who is also a former mayor of Dve Mogili, is prepared to offer Syrian refugees jobs in the tailoring industry and in construction, which would pay up to EUR 400.

Damyanov also plans to invest around BGN 50 000 for the reconstruction of a property he owns, in order to turn it into an apartment building for 12-15 refugee families.

"I would be glad to offer these people work, as long as they are willing to do it, and not just to live off social benefits. If they are interested in settling for longer in Bulgaria, it would be no problem. I have other colleagues who are willing to do the same", said the businessman cited by BGNES.

According to Damyanov, the Bulgarian government must have a clear plan on what to do with these people, and how to integrate them effectively into society.

He believes the state should work more closely with businesses and employers, especially in the smaller desolate regions of the country, where labour is most needed.
