Bulgaria’s Exports to EU Up 6.6% in January - July 2013 Y/Y

In the period January – July 2013 Bulgarian exports to the EU increased by 6.6% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year and amounted to BGN 14.7 B.

The main trade partners of Bulgaria were Germany, Italy, Romania, Greece and France which accounted for 68.8% of the exports to the EU Member States.

The preliminary data was released by the National Statistics Institute, NSI, on Tuesday, October 9th.

In July 2013 exports to the EU have increased by 7.9% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and amounted to BGN 2.4 B.

Bulgarian imports from the EU in the period January - Juy 2013 increased by 1% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year and added up to BGN 17.3 B at CIF prices.

The largest amounts were reported for the goods imported from Germany, Italy, Romania, Greece and Spain. In July 2013, Bulgarian imports from EU Member States increased by 6.8% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and amounted to BGN 2.8 B at CIF prices.

The foreign trade balance of Bulgaria (export FOB - import CIF) with EU in the period January – July 2013 was negative and added up to BGN 2 573.1 M. At FOB/FOB prices (after elimination of transport and insurance costs on imports) the trade balance was also negative and amounted to BGN 1 780.4 M.

In the first seven months of 2013, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the largest growths in the exports of Bulgaria to EU, distributed according to the Standard International Trade Classification, were recorded in the section "Beverages and tobacco" (28.5%) and “Chemical and related products n.e.c." (24.0%).

The most notable fall (15.6%) was recorded in section "Mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials".

In imports from EU, the largest increase (11.4%) was reported in section "Animals and vegetable oils, fats and waxes" while the most notable fall (4.7%) was observed in the section "Machinery and transport equipment".
