Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed a dinner discussion of the escalating situation around Syria at the ongoing G-20 summit in St. Petersburg.

Putin pointed out has not reversed a prior decision to keep Syria out of the official agenda, but has chosen to respect the wishes of other participants

"that several countries had requested time to talk about otherpressing international issues, especially Syria," stated the Russian President at the G-20 plenary opening Thursday.

"I propose that we do that during dinner, so that we can discuss the economic issues that brought us together here," said Putin.

The G-20 was expected to turn into a showdown of sorts, as Russia has strongly opposed recently revealed plans by the US to launch a military intervention in the Syrian civil war.

Russian government sees as groundless the US's claims that it has enough evidence that forces of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad has used chemical weapons in the conflict.
