European Council President Herman Van Rompuy stated he hopes that UN State Secretary Ban Ki-moon will be shortly able to inform the EU of the UN's findings regarding the use of chemical weapons in Syria.

World leaders are expecting a report from a team of UN investigators sent to Syria to research an alleged chemical attack carried out in Damascus in the end of August.

Speaking at a briefing at the G-20 meetings in St. Petersburg, Russia, Van Rompuy stated said he expects the findings to be revealed later Thursday.

There has been increased tension on whether the US, together with other countries, such as Turkey and EU member France, will launch a military intervention campaing in Syria.

The US government has repeatedly stated it allegedly has enough evidence that the chemical attack was carried out by forces of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad.
