Bulgaria and Romania are eager to build a third bridge connecting the two countries over the Danube River, Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev and his Romanian counterpart Traian Basescu said Thursday.

The bridge will connect Bulgaria’s Silistra to Romania’s Calarasi. The two Balkan countries will seek various ways to finance the project, making use of EU Structural Funds, Cross-border Cooperation Programs and the Danube Strategy.

Plevneliev and Basescu met during the18th annual summit of leaders from Central and Eastern Europe in Bratislava just one day before the official inauguration of the second Danube Bridge linking the two countries.

The two Presidents agreed to cooperate more intensively towards their countries’ joint accession to the Schengen Agreement, according to the 24 Chasa daily.

Plevneliev and Basescu expressed their support for the Nabucco West gas pipeline project, saying they hoped that the Shah Deniz consortium would approve its construction at the end of June.
