The center-right GERB party, which ruled Bulgaria 2009-13, goes at the May 12 early elections for nothing less than a clear victory, stated GERB campaign manager Tsvetan Tsvetanov.

Tuesday Tsvetanov spoke in northeastern town of Dalgopol, as part of his election tour in Bulgaria's Varna region.

"A heavy election campaign is looming, and GERB is fighting for a resounding victor at the coming vote," stated the party vice-chair.

Tsvetanov, who served as Interior Minister in the GERB cabinet, has been implicated in the raging wiretapping scandal in Bulgaria that burst after the prosecution announced findings of rampant police use of special surveillance devices in violation of regulations while Tsvetanov was minister.

In his speech in Dalgopol, Tsvetanov stressed on GERB's capacities in the absorption of EU funds for Bulgaria's benefit, as well as on an alleged overall restoration of EU trust in Bulgaria due to the efforts of the previous government.

"The GERB cabinet succeeded in restoring the trust of European institutions in our country and so made money from EU funds come to your municipality," said the GERB strongman to Dalgopol residents.

In his speech, Tsvetanov also praised the leadership qualities of GERB chair and former Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov.
