The largest opposition party in Bulgaria, the Bulgarian Socialist Party, is set to host its 48th congress on Friday.

The left-wing party's main aim is to approve its pre-elections framework and prepare for the upcoming parliamentary vote in the summer of 2013.

Cancelling Bulgaria's flat-rate taxation and introducing higher taxes for the richer is expected to be one of the main messages that BSP would send out during the congress. Curiously, it was the former three-way coalition government headed by current BSP leader Sergey Stanishev that introduced the flat tax back in 2008.

The left-wing party is also said to be preparing to promise a considerable increase in retirement pensions – as far as 70-80%.
