Cubans Said to Be Excited over Eased Travel Rules

World | January 14, 2013, Monday // 09:14|  views

Starting Monday, Cubans will no longer need an exit permit and a letter of invitation from someone in another country to travel abroad.

The move is part of a broader immigration reform by President Raul Castro making it easier for Cubans to go abroad — and also to return.

The country's residents will require only a passport to travel internationally and can stay abroad for two years without losing their property or ability to return to the island.

International headlines have described Cubans as "upbeat" and "eager" on the eve of the liberalized travel regime.

American officials are working to address any increase in the number of Cubans seeking visas to come to the United States, according to CNN.
