Code red for extremely dangerous weather has been called for Bulgaria's southern Smolyan and Kardzhali regions Sunday over expected heavy rainfall exceptionally strong winds.

Code orange for dangerous weather has been placed on the remainder of Bulgaria's south, announced the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology.

Wind gusts are expected to reach 25 m/sec, while rainfall in some southern areas is expected to reach over 50-60 liters/sq.m.

No alert has been called only for north-western Vidin and Pleven regions.

What is additionally unusual in the weather phenomenon is that the strong wind will blow from the south, and not from the northwest or northeast, as is wont in Bulgaria during the fall.

Temperatures will remain comparatively high for fall conditions, but will vary significantly according to the level of exposure to the southerly winds.

Places less exposed to the winds will have lows of 7-10 degrees C and highs at 18-20 C, whereas places getting more wind will have lows at 18-20 C and highs at 27 C.
