Outgoing US envoy to Bulgaria James Warlick was decorated Wednesday with the highest distinction of Bulgaria's Ministry of Defense, the St. George Medal, 1st degree.

Warlick, who is set to bid farewell to Bulgaria on Friday, received Monday Bulgaria's highest state distinction, the Stara Planina Order, 1st degree, by Bulgarian President Rosen Plenveliev.

"This is just a humble sign of gratitude for ambassador Warlick's activity contributing to broadening the strategic partnership between the USA and Bulgaria," stated Bulgarian Minister of Defense Gen. Anyu Angelov upon decorating the diplomat.

"In addition to becoming my colleague and partner in the field of defense, you also became a very good friend of mine," said Warlick in return.

He added that the award is a great honor for him and his co-workers at the US embassy in Sofia.
