The Italian police authorities have arrested a dangerous Bulgarian mobster, 36-year-old Vasil Kostov.

Kostov, who has been sentenced to 25 years in jail by a Bulgarian court for human trafficking and enticement into prostitution, was nabbed in San Severo, Italy, on Wednesday, foggiatoday.it reported Thursday.

At the time of his arrest, the Bulgarian gangster was accompanied by his bodyguards; he was captured in his car in a special police operation.

"I'd rather spend 10 years in an Italian prison than a single year in a Bulgarian prison," the mobster, who had a fake ID, reportedly said at the time as he got arrested.

Kostov is believed to have been in hiding in Italy for at least one year, moving from city to city. In addition to his fake ID, he went everywhere accompanied by his two Bulgarian bodyguards.

Recently, he is known to have been in hiding in the Italian provinces of Emilia Romagna and Foggia.

The gangster has been wanted with an international arrest warrant for enticing and forcing young women into prostitution together with other members of his family.

Kostov is under investigation for any crimes he might have committed in Italy.
