Over 1400 Bulgarians Found Work in other EU Countries in 2012

Over 1400 Bulgarians started work in other EU Member States this year within the EURES network, according to Elena Vidinska, chief expert at the Bulgarian Employment Agency.

Set up in 1993, EURES is a co-operation network between the European Commission and the Public Employment Services of the EEA Member States (The EU countries plus Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein) and other partner organizations.

The purpose of EURES is to provide information, advice and recruitment/placement (job-matching) services for the benefit of workers and employers as well as any citizen wishing to benefit from the principle of the free movement of persons.

Bulgaria, whose Employment Agency is part of EURES, sent 1200 strawberry pickers to Spain this year thanks to the job mobility portal.

Apart from that, 150 Bulgarians started seasonal jobs for up to 6 months in McDonalds restaurants in Germany.

After the tourism job fair in the Black Sea city of Varna in the spring of 2012, 13 Bulgarians went to work in hotels and restaurants in Germany, Denmark, Finland, Sweden and other countries.

Bulgaria's Employment Agency also implements international contracts and agreements with partner employment agencies, thanks to which around 80 students found summer jobs in Germany.

According to the data presented by registered employment intermediaries to Bulgaria's Employment Agency, a total of 50 Bulgarians found work abroad this year, including 26 shipbuilders, who went Denmark, 16 electricians, who went to Portugal and 8 caretakers, who went to Germany.

Under an agreement between the governments of Bulgaria and Israel for employment intermediation, a total of 88 Bulgarian construction workers went to Israel, 49 in April and 39 in end-July.
