A young man who took part in Saturday's Sofia Pride LGBT parade in the Bulgarian capital was assaulted by three individuals, the event's organizers have revealed.

"I begged them to stop. I suffer from a heavy form of diabetes and while they were kicking me, my only thought was for them not to kick the insulin pump attached to my abdomen – or the cannula," the beaten youngster has said.

The disturbing accident took place near Sofia's Serdica subway station several hours after the event was over. People in passing cars chased away the attackers by shouting at them.

The 25-year-old man has decided not to contact the police, since he does not believe the attackers could be found.

Over 2,000 people gathered for the 5th annual Sofia Gay Pride, which took place in the Bulgarian capital Saturday.

The event itself went peacefully and without provocations.

LGBT people, as well as heterosexual citizens, joined Sofia Pride to express their desire for equal rights to all, and to protest against continuing discrimination against people of differing sexual orientations in Bulgaria.

In a sorry event Saturday morning, some 200 citizens, assembled by 5 far-right nationalist parties, marched in a counter-rally in Sofia, raising a number of homophobic slogans.

in previous years, two Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride parades in the Balkan country had been marred by violent attacks on participants.
