No Investors Eyeing Bulgaria's Scrapped N-Plant Project - EconMin

Bulgarian Economy and Energy Minister Delyan Dobrev has said he does not know of a particular strategic investor that might revive the country's abandoned Belene Nuclear Power Plant project.

Dobrev's comment followed a statement made by the Chairman of the Bulgarian Atomic Forum BULATOM, Bogomil Manchev, who hinted that private investor could possibly purchase the abandoned project by the end of 2012.

Manchev claimed an investor has shown interest in the project and sees is as feasible.

"Let us look at the details of this idea. It has been stated that there is a western investor (interested). We searched for a western investor and such investor did not show up," Dobrev argued, as cited by 24 chasa.

Dobrev pointed out that if an investor was interested in the project, it would have shown its interest while the plant's construction.

The Minister declared that Bulgaria has always exported electricity to its neighboring countries when that is necessary and will do so in case electricity supply restrictions loom in Greece.

The Bulgarian government recently decided to install the 1000 MW reactor that Russian state-owned  company Atomstroyexport already produced for Belene in its sole nuclear power plant, Kozloduy.
