The statement of Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev that God is Bulgarian has irritated the Members of the Ukrainian Parliament.

The news was reported by the Bulgarian "Trud" (Labor) daily in the aftermath of the President's discovery that God has been very well-disposed towards the country in terms of earthquakes over the past 60 years.

"The earthquakes registered over the last 60 years rather seem to show that God is Bulgarian," Plevneliev told reporters on Wednesday.

According to Ukrainian MP, Yaroslav Kendzior, cited by the news agency New Region, the statement violates the well-known Ukrainian theory that God is from Galicia (a historical region in Eastern Europe that presently straddles the border between Poland and Ukraine).

"There were theories that Jesus Christ is from Galicia. I regret that our own President Yanukovych missed the opportunity to create such masterpiece. We would not be surprised to hear him say that God is from the region of Donetsk, even from Enakievo. But the Bulgarian Head of State did well too. We can only envy Bulgarians," the MP is quoted saying.

"This is total non-sense. Bulgaria's President said an absolute non-sense. We can find our own provocateurs - for example, our fake historian Kanigin who claims that God is Ukrainian. It's a provocation, a stupidity, not history," another Ukrainian MP, Stepan Hmara, further says.
