All subway stops in Sofia will become fully accessible for handicap people in wheelchairs by the end of the current year, the city's Mayor, Yordanka Fandakova, vowed Friday.

Speaking at a ceremony for the official launch of special elevators at the capital's high school for mathematics, Fandakova said that the Sofia metro will be one of the very few globally to be 100% handicap accessible.

Currently, three metro stations do not have access for handicap people. All are located on the very first line that was built years ago between downtown Sofia and the "Lyulin" district. A public procurement procedure has already been launched to select a supplier of elevators to be mounted there.

The mathematics high school is one of the seven in the capital where the City Hall has funded additions and improvements to make them accessible for handicap students.
