Former Bulgarian PM Reneta Indzhova, who was recently appointed head of Bulgaria's National Statistical Institute, likened her new job to mending the Ship of Theseus.

"At the Statistics Bureau you have to steer the Ship of Theseus. The question is whether it's a new one, and if so, whether the new one lives up to the old one, and vice versa," commented Indzhova in an interview for TV7 Sunday.

"I'll be calculating much statistics for the old ship, which is constantly changing. The ship must not only remain the same entity, it must continue floating," continued the former PM, referencing the famous paradox in which a ship has all its parts changed while on water.

At the same time Indzhova stressed that she will work for safeguarding the National Statistical Institute's image as a stable and trustworthy institution.

Indzhova was appointed head of the statistics bureau Tuesday. She served as Bulgaria's PM between October 1994 and January 1995. Before that, she was head of Bulgaria's Privatization Agency.
