Bulgaria's capital Sofia together with Czech capital Prague and the Polish city of Krakow has emerged as a primary destination for British couples, according to a car hire company.

Car hire specialist eRentals.co.uk reported growing demand for Prague, Krakow and Sofia in a press release issue Friday.

British couples are choosing more unusual locations for romantic Valentine getaways according to car hire specialist eRentals.co.uk, which this year is seeing strong demand for Eastern European destinations.

The company says that bookings for destinations including Sofia in Bulgaria, Prague in the Czech Republic, Bratislava in Slovakia, and Krakow in Poland are increasing year on year, as romantic travellers are drawn by the history, culture and value for money they offer.

"Destinations such as France are still very popular as an easily accessible romantic break, but what we're seeing is a big increase in bookings for these less well known Eastern European destinations.  A combination of more low-cost flights, combined with good value for money hotels, restaurants and shopping seem to be the driving force behind this demand," explains Briony Fairbairn of eRentals.co.uk.

"Some of these destinations also offer the potential for a romantic ski break that won't break the bank, with car hire offering an additional element to the trip as travellers choose to discover the wider area," he adds.

The company release says that eRentals.co.uk currently has three days car hire from Sofia airport for EUR 20, from Krakow airport for EUR 40, and from Budapest airport from EUR 40.

Other areas seeing strong demand for the Valentine's week include Faro, Malta and Bordeaux.
