FBI Director, Robert Mueller, is arriving on an official visit to Bulgaria Thursday.

The announcement was made by Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, who did not elaborate on details about the grounds for the visit, but stated he saw it as recognition of the effort on the part of the entire security sector in the country to fight trans-border organized crime.

Mueller's visit was first announced in the beginning of November, after he met Tsvetanov in Washington DC.

It was also reported then that a special FBI agent will be sent to Bulgaria to help the Balkan country combat cybercrime. The agent will assist the cybercrime unit within Bulgaria's Main Directorate for Combatting Organized Crime (GDBOP) and will help in cases involving child pornography, identity theft and financial crimes, among others.

On Wednesday, US Ambassador to Bulgaria James Warlick formally announced the opening of an office of the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in Sofia.
