Bulgaria's Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, admitted publically Friday he is not at all happy with budget 2012 and funds slated for security.

Next year the Interior is receiving BGN 7 M less than what it got in 2011. The Minister however acknowledged that there is a need to up funding for healthcare, education and culture, the sectors where the money is being redirected.

"There is no minister from the cabinet, who is happy with the budget to be passed by the Bulgarian Parliament. I am considerably unhappy," Tsvetanov told the Bulgarian National Television, BNT, Friday, after keeping quiet on the subject for several days.

He explained his discontent came from the fact that under the previous government term, the total budget for the Interior and the no longer exisiting Ministry of Emergency Situations and Disasters had been about BGN 1.25 B while in the last few years the Interior, now also in charge of emergency situations, had been operating with about BGN 1 B.

Tsvetanov, who was also the head of the election headquarters of his ruling, center-right Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party (GERB) admitted there had been mistakes in the organization of the October presidential and local elections, but explained the widely-reported chaos in the first round with the fact there were two votes in one day.

"The elections were fair and democratic and the results confirmed forecasts about GERB. What matters even more is that in the last 7-8 months we managed to consolidate the party and approach in a professional manner the nominations and the election process. To win means to have increased responsibilities," the Minister concluded.
