Between 35% and 40% of all new cars bought in Bulgaria are re-exported from the country, according to Stoyan Zhelev, chairman of the Association of Car Manufacturers and Their Representatives for Bulgaria.

Bulgaria's export of new cars to Germany exceeded its import of new cars from there with a total of 270 vehicles in the first six months of 2011, Zhelev has pointed out in an interview for the Bulgarian Trud daily.

Bulgaria's vast re-export of new cars, as well as the increase registered in the new-car market within the country, is due to the lower prices, the chairman of the association has clarified.

Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Romania are the main re-export destination for the new cars bought in Bulgaria.

A total of 10 287 new vehicles were bought in Bulgaria during the first six months of the year, of which approximately 4000 were re-exported.
