The first Bulgarian citizens around the world to vote in the run-off of the presidential and local elections on Sunday, October 30, 2011, are those in New Zealand.

Thus, the Bulgarian elections will start with the opening of the polling station in Auckland, New Zealand, at 8 pm Eastern European Time on Saturday (6 am NZDT, Sunday), ten hours before the opening of the Election Day in Bulgaria.

Bulgarians in New Zealand, Australia, Japan, and South Korea will be the first to vote because of the time difference, the Foreign Ministry reminded Saturday.

The electoral process for Bulgarian citizens living abroad will end at 5 am Eastern European Time on October 31, with the closing of the last polling station in Los Angeles at 8 pm local time.

A little over 50 000 Bulgarian citizens cast their votes in polling stations around the world in the first round of the Bulgarian presidential elections on October 23; of those, almost 22 000 votes were cast in Turkey.
