Bulgaria's Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, officially launched Thursday the new linear accelerator at the University Hospital "St. George" in the second largest city of Plovdiv.

Borisov was accompanied at the ceremony by Health Minister, Dr. Stefan Konstantinov.

The expensive equipment, which has a variety of hospital uses, is the fifth in the country – the other three are in Sofia while the Plovdiv hospital already had one.

The linear accelerator was purchased with funds of the Health Ministry in the amount of BGN 1.7 M and St. George's own funds in the amount of BGN 2.1 M.

The accelerator will allow the hospital to treat 140 patients a day which is double to its capacity until now.
