3 Bulgarian State Servants Arrested for Racket

Companies, which are subcontractors in the construction of the Trakiya highway in southern Bulgaria, have been paying bribes to the State Agency Road Infrastructure, API, and the State Automobile Administration, DAI.

The information was reported Saturday by Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, who announced the latest special police operation codenamed "The Ease," carried out in the southern city of Stara Zagora.

Two API employees were arrested red handed, in the moment they were taking a bribe in the amount of BGN 7 200.

The police raid of the DAI offices in the city yielded BGN 70 000 paid in the last 10 months by construction companies, which were blackmailed and racketeered by DAI employees.

Tsvetanov further informed the Stara Zagora DAI Head has been arrested. After the detention he felt faint and had to be listed in the hospital. He is reported in stable condition.

The police further discovered BGN 12 000 in the DAI office in the border town of Svilengrad.

The investigation continues.
