Bulgaria's border checkpoints will be connected to Interpol's database, it was announced Friday after the country's Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov met with Interpol Secretary General Ronald Noble.

The opportunity to use Interpol's data will boost the capacity to prevent trans-border crime. The system will provide direct access to information about wanted individuals, stolen cars or stolen IDs.

Tsvetanov took part in the the first ever European Police Chiefs Convention in Hague, where he also met with EU Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom.

On the closing day of the convention, Europol's Director, Rob Wainwright, spoke of the urgent need to improve the strategic understanding of the challenges faced by organized crime and terrorism, and to develop innovative and more effective responses to it, building a thorough profile and casting an eye to the future.
