Around 7,000 supporters of the Bulgarian Socialist Party gathered on a rainy May Day in Sofia for their traditional rally, this year in protest of Bulgaria's center-right GERB cabinet.

The protest, coinciding with the International Workers' Day, carried the motto "Day of Labor, Day of Rage."

The gathering was spearheaded by Socialist leader and ex-PM Sergey Stanishev, who had just begotten his first child - little girl Daria - in the morning.

Among other key speakers was Georgi Kadiev from the Sofia BSP organization, who in particular slammed GERB's financial and economic policy, but also stressed that the government is leading Bulgaria to a deep "moral" crisis.

Socialist leader Stanishev in turn stated, "GERB has led thousands of Bulgarians to sheer despair; GERB has betrayed even its own voters."

Both politicians and supporters united under the call for an imminent withdrawal of the cabinet, led by PM Boyko Borisov.

Many people were carrying the already classic "Djankov Go Home!" signs, referring to FinMin Simeon Djankov, who got educated and worked in the USA before returning to Bulgaria in 2009.

The rally gathered on Knyaz Alexander I square in front of the governmental buildings in central Sofia and marched on the Tsar Osvoboditel Blvd to the Borisova Park, where socialists traditionally gather on May 1.
