A US warplane has crashed in Libya, according to US military spokesman Kenneth Fiddler.

However, there was no indication that the F-15 Eagle was brought down by hostile fire Fiddler told the BBC Tuesday. He said one crew member from the crashed warplane had been recovered safely, while an operation was under way to recover another

Vince Crawley, a spokesman for the Africa Command, has been quoted by ABC News saying the crash could have been due to a mechanical failure. A journalist from The Telegraph reported he or she discovered it somewhere in or around Benghazi, the rebel-held city.
