Bulgaria's centrist GERB government has changed its mind about the amendments to the transport law concerning a new national transport plan.

The idea of direct buss lines traveling only between cities and towns with a population of over 30 000 has been abandoned, Bulgarian Transport Minister Alexander Tsvetkov and Parliamentary Transport Commission Head Ivan Valkov, announced.

If the new amendments had passed, a possibility would have occurred that one might be forced to change several busses to reach the the Bulgarian capital Sofia, provided one comes from a smaller community.

Minister Tsvetkov explained also that the idea about the government organizing tenders for buss lines between communities with a population over 30 000 has also been rejected. Instead, the tenders will continue to be done by the municipalities.

The government, however, will still enforce some new regulations.

The buss timetables across the country will be changed in a way that will not allow several busses, owned by deferent companies, to from one and the same place to one and the same destination simultaneously, thus avoiding unfair competition.
