The Sofia District Prosecutor's Office is requesting that the District Court places Ivan Getov under psychiatric care.

The information was reported Friday by the Bulgarian National Radio, BNR.

Getov, 27, was the driver of the dark blue BMW, which on Wednesday sped towards the entrance of the Presidential building in downtown Sofia, and hit the curb before coming to a halt.

The man was arrested on the spot by employees of the National Security Services.

Getov is deaf-mute, has a suspended verdict for the premeditated murder of his father in 2003, and a criminal record for disorderly conduct.

According to unnamed sources, the men sped towards the President's building because he wanted to attract high-level attention to his problems. He is said to have been repeatedly abused by his father, whom he killed him a bout of rage after the latter tried to choke him in one of the common family scandals.
