Petition Hopes to Bring Back Bulgaria's Football Star Berbatov

Fans of the Bulgarian football star Dimitar Berbatov have started a petition to bring him back in the national team, which he quit in May.

The fans' demand is taking place in a special website for petitions and the organizers hope to gather at least one million signatures from all over the world.

If they manage to reach their goal, the petition will be sent to Berbatov with a request for him to reconsider his decision to quit the Bulgarian national football team.

During his press conference in May, the Manchester United striker, who was also the captain of Bulgarian national team, did not state a particular reason for his decision, just a combination of several ones – fatigue and inability to do more for the national team, a knee problem, the need to give way to younger players, focus on his play with the UK club, and on his family and his baby daughter and spare them the huge stress he has been subjected to as the nationals' captain.

According to numerous speculations, Berbatov has decided to withdraw over harsh and persistent media attacks and non-stop criticism of his performance with the national team, however, he said he was not at all upset and criticism was not the reason behind his decision.

Many of the comments for the petition are pessimistic about its effect. According to some fans, the withdrawal from the national team was the reason for Berbatov's good shape in Manchester United. The Bulgarian already scored three goals in the Premier League and one goal in the game against Chelsea.

However, optimistic fans hope that the new coach of the Bulgarian national team would try to bring back the former captain. It is not clear though who will manage the team after last week's resignation of Stanimir Stoilov.
