The special letter sent by World Bank President Robert Zoellick to EC President Barroso is a positive assessment of Bulgaria’s progress, according to Bulgarian EU Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva.

In his letter dedicated to Bulgaria, Zoellick has told Barroso that he has been impressed with Bulgaria’s progress and that the World Bank has made a commitment to help with the country with experts and expertise so that it can take full advantage of the opportunities presented by its EU membership.

“The letter shows that the government is focused on the most important task for Bulgaria – accelerating the absorption of the EU funds as the most important outside financial resource of our country,” commented Georgieva, who is herself a former deputy of Zoellick at the World Bank, as cited by bTV.

“Mr. Zoellick believes that the invitation of the World Bank to help Bulgaria in that respect has come on time, and he is addressing Mr. Barroso in that respect so that we can be certain that all resources at Bulgaria’s disposal can serve the accomplishment of its most important goal,” she declared.

The Bulgarian EU Commissioner has pointed out Zoellick’s positive assessment of the reforms and economic policies of the Bulgarian government.
