20 Bulgarian Revenue Agents Exposed as State Security Collaborators

А special panel, investigating Bulgaria's communist-era police files, has exposed twenty officials from the National Revenue Agency (NRA) as state security agents and collaborators.

The check has covered 1509 high-ranking NRA employees in Sofia and across the country.

Only two of the twenty are currently holding senior positions at NRA – Venelin Valev, Manager of the NRA education center in the town of Dospat and Selyat Habil, Department Head at the NRA Regional Office in the Black Sea city of Burgas.

The blacklist of former state security agents and collaborators already features Socialist President Georgi Parvanov, MPs, former constitutional judges, supreme magistrates, investigators, members of parliament, prominent and well-known former and current Bulgarian journalists, high-ranking employees of the Interior, the current Head of the Customs Agency, Vanio Tanov.

Checks have been conducted so far at the National Audit Office, the National Health Insurance Fund, the National Social Security Institute, the Privatization Agency, the Interior Ministry, and media outlets among others.
