Bulgaria's first EU Commissioner and now political advisor of EC Vice President and Transportation Commissioner, Siim Kalas, wants standardized information for airlines and airports in crisis situations.

Kuneva said Tuesday that the current air traffic chaos, triggered by the ash cloud from a volcano in Iceland that is drifting across Europe, causing flight cancellations and crowds of stranded passengers, has reveled the need of connections between the air careers and other ways of transportation - railroad and bus.

The ex Commissioner further pointed out that in addition to inconvenience the closing of the skies in Europe creates many threats such as inability to do medical evacuations, organ transplantation, and even lead to loss of life.

“The current situation is really a test for adherence to consumers' rights and the ability of the European Union to assist its citizens on emergency situations.

Earlier Monday, Kuneva herself announced her appointment as Kalas' political advisor.
