The Inspectorate at the Sofia City Hall began Wednesday to issue fines to residents and visitors caught littering public spaces.

During an unheard before and much anticipated by many action, municipal employees have checked public transportation stops and at just 2 of them have fined 12 people for throwing cigarette butts on the sidewalk, the Bulgarian National Radio, BNR, reports.

The fine for this violation is BGN 10.

The City Hall vows to continue the checkups to include all of the capital's districts.
