The new members of the Parliament were officially sworn in Wednesday morning following the February 17 rule of the Constitutional Court to void 18 000 votes cast in Turkey over election violations.

The rule caused a reshuffle in the Parliament where the ethnic Turkish party Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) lost one seat while the ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party gained one, and changes had to be made in the parliamentary groups of the rightist Blue Coalition and the conservative Order, Law and Justice (RZS) party.

The three new members are Rumen Stoylov from GERB, Ventsislav Varbanov from the Blue Coalition, and Georgi Terziyski from RZS. They replace Rushen Riza from DPS, Mariana Darakchieva from the Blue Coalition, and Atanas Semov from RZS.

Terziyski will be independent MP because the RZS group fell apart at the end of 2009, after one of its members, Mario Tagarinski, left.

Varbanov also declared some days ago he will be independent. He comes back after vacating his seat last year over another rule of the Constitutional Court. Before leaving, however, Varbanov had already declared himself independent and not a member of the Blue Coalition.

DPS are appealing the changes and demand a recount of the vote cast in Turkey during the summer 2009 general elections.
