Sofia Prosecutor Confirms Charges against Ex Ministers

Sofia’s City Prosecutor, Nikolay Kokinov, announced that there are currently 30 cases against individuals with immunity such as investigators, prosecutors, and magistrates.

Kokinov spoke Sunday in an interview for Darik radio, saying there is a special department with his office dealing just with probes of magistrates.

The Sofia Prosecutor vowed to bring all high-profile cases to conclusion under the condition there is enough evidence, adding former Social Minister, Emiliya Maslarova, has already been sent a subpoena. Charges are also ready against former Agriculture Minister, Valeri Tsvetanov, while those against former Deputy Interior Minister, Raif Mustafa, and the former Director of the National Revenue Agency, Maria Murgina, are in the last stage of preparation.

Charges have already been filed against the former Chair of the State Forestry Agency Stefan Yurukov, and the trial is pending. The probe of former Prime Minister, Socialist leader, Sergey Stanishev, regarding alleged leaks of classified information, has also been done, but some experts had withdrawn during its course.

Kokinov reminded that the case of the murder of Prosecutor, Nikolay Kokinov, had been reopened and witnesses are being questioned.

“Former Chief Prosecutor, Nikola Filchev, will also be called for interrogation in case we need to do so,” Kokinov said, adding there are currently no suspects in Kolev’s murder.

The City Prosecutor further stated that regarding the “Octopus” probe all 20 witnesses maintain there accounts and have not retreated.
