A British tourist beat up a lifeguard in Bulgaria's Black Sea city of Burgas Monday.

The Brit reportedly became enraged with the lifeguard because he did not allow him to enter the sea waters over an extremely dangerous current.

Because of the current that usually happens around August 15, the lifeguards have issued numerous warnings that swimming is to be very dangerous until the end of the month and have banned it in the last two days.

The incident was reported by the Bulgarian news agency BGNES, citing the Head of the Lifeguard Services in Burgas.

The foreign tourist exhibited an arrogant behavior at Burgas "Central Beach" and after several minutes of pleading on the part of the lifeguards to not enter the waters, the Brit hit one of them with his head and split his lip.

Complaints from Bulgarian lifeguards that they have been treated by tourists as annoyances and of being stopped from doing their duty have been on the rise lately despite the numerous reports of people drowning along the Black Sea coast.
